The Milwaukee Bucks are outscoring their opponents by 65 total points in second halves.

Over the Budenholzer era, the Bucks have grown accustomed to fast starts and racing out to big leads to set the tone early.

While that still remains this season, their win streak has shown that they have generally played their best basketball when coming out of the halftime break. Over their five-game win streak, the Bucks are outscoring their opponents by a league-leading 65 total points in the second half and have a +25.9 net rating as well.

This has certainly been a key ingredient in pouring it on against the likes of the Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers to pick up their double-digit routs. The same applies to powering through the Nuggets last time out by turning a 3-point halftime deficit into a comfortable 13-point victory.

The biggest element in the way the Bucks have turning things up a notch in their second halves as of late comes down to their league-best 96.1 defensive rating.

Granted, not all of the offenses the Bucks have faced over the last week-plus have been worldbeaters, but we’ve seen the Bucks under Budenholzer veer away to tactical changes when the circumstances dictate it. That, in turn, has helped the Bucks’ defense stabilize as they try to find their consistency on that side of the floor.

Whatever gear the Bucks are hitting coming after halftime, it’s clearly working and the fact that they have increasingly matched that by switching things up defensively when need be has only bolstered their second half dominance.
