Checking in on previously rumored Milwaukee Bucks’ trade targets — Doug McDermott

This one flew under the radar, but the Bucks were reportedly interested in sharpshooter Doug McDermott from the Indiana Pacers before last year’s trade deadline.

Michael Scotto previously reported on Bleacher Report that a potential deal for McDermott would have had the Bucks sending out Ersan Ilyasova. The two sides kicked the tires in discussions. However, a deal never came to be, and McDermott remains with the Pacers. The six-year veteran is currently serving as a key contributor off Indiana’s bench averaging career-highs in points (12.9) and field goal percentage (51.6).

McDermott is not having the best shooting season from downtown as he’s connecting on just 35.5 percent from downtown on 4.4 attempts per game, but that floor spacing is why Milwaukee’s interest is understandable. The swingman has made his living with his prolific shooting from distance, and that would make him an easy plug-in with the Bucks’ let it fly offense.

Making an expiring $7.3 million this season, McDermott stands as another tricky piece to go after if the Pacers were to deal him away, similarly to Tucker.

Of course, bringing in the instant offense McDermott is known for would do wonders for the Bucks’ league-leading offense, but whether Indiana is willing to trade McDermott is the least of the Bucks’ concerns in trying to package a deal for the veteran sharpshooter.
