Milwaukee Bucks likeliest to be traded by the deadline — D.J. Augustin

The Bucks believed they had found their new sixth man when they inked veteran point guard D.J. Augustin to a three-year, $21 million deal over the offseason. Some claimed at the time that they had significantly overpaid for the 33-year-old, and with 34 appearances under his belt, those concerns are justifiable.

Augustin has performed well below expectations with the Bucks, averaging just 6.1 points on .350/.366/.897 shooting splits, 1.4 rebounds, and three assists in 19.5 minutes per game. Milwaukee’s backup floor general has been a non-factor for most of the season, and it appears that they might be entertaining the idea of jumping the ship on this failed experiment.

This belief stems from rumors that the Bucks were reportedly in the running for point guard Derrick Rose before he was traded to the New York Knicks last month. Rose had been one of the hottest names on the trade market dating back to last season, and hearing Milwaukee’s name being thrown into the mix was certainly interesting.

If true, the Bucks will likely continue scouring the market for a more suitable backup to replace Augustin in the second unit. There might not be too many household names floating around out there after the Rose trade, but that might not stop this team from doing their due diligence.

While only time will tell, the Milwaukee Bucks might be busy ahead of this month’s March 25 trade deadline, given their inconsistent play lately.
