Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday is playing his role to perfection this season

With the Bucks looking for a point guard at the conclusion of last season, there were few better options available on the market than Jrue Holiday.

Milwaukee paid a hefty price to acquire the former All-Star from the New Orleans Pelicans, but given his pedigree as one of the best two-way guards in the league, it seemed to be worth the gamble. When Holiday was asked before the season how he believed he would fit in alongside back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and two-time All-Star Khris Middleton, his answer was simple:

"“I think I fit in perfectly. Somebody who can space the floor for Giannis and Khris. Somebody that can also attack the basket and get other people open, and then you know, on the defensive end, I feel like defensively that’s going to be our biggest strength. It’s going to be really hard for people to score on us.”"

A man of his word, Holiday has fit in perfectly with this team on both sides of the ball. In 27 games, the guard has averaged 15.1 points on a .492/.363/.766 slash line, 4.3 rebounds, and five assists. While the numbers are not the most eye-popping, Holiday’s impact has gone far beyond the stat sheet. Whether it be spacing the floor, providing an imposing threat defensively, orchestrating the offense, or whatever else, he has displayed that he can do it all in Milwaukee.

Just as it seemed like the guard had settled in with the Bucks, he was sidelined for 10 games due to a positive COVID-19 test and a lengthy bout with the league’s health and safety protocols. That absence forced Holiday to take a few steps back in terms of getting accustomed to the team, but with an extra week off thanks to the All-Star break, hopefully Jrue can return to form soon.
