First buy low trade deadline candidate for the Milwaukee Bucks to consider: Wayne Ellington

The Bucks and Pistons have made a handful of trade transactions with one another in recent years, and they should look to keep the tradition alive this season. Looking to add more shooting to the lineup, general manager Jon Horst should see if he can gauge Troy Weaver’s interest in a trade for Wayne Ellington.

Ellington is having a stellar year with the Pistons by currently averaging 10.6 points while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor and an impressive 42.2 percent from behind the arc. Numbers like that could certainly provide a spark offensively off Milwaukee’s bench alongside an already top-tier shooting unit. On the books for $2.6 million this season, the sharpshooting guard would be a steal for the Bucks, given his high-end production this year.

If Horst approached the Pistons with an offering of D.J. Wilson and a second round draft pick, Weaver’s recent track record suggests that a deal could potentially get done. Since being appointed as Detroit’s general manager this past offseason, Weaver continues to clean house as there is only one member of last year’s team currently still on the roster, that being Sekou Doumbouya.

The Pistons are clearly all-in on embracing a youth movement, and the 33-year-old Ellington does not fit their timeline. It seems almost certain that he will not be on their roster following the trade deadline, and Milwaukee should look to make that a guarantee.
