Second potential buyout target for the Milwaukee Bucks — Jeff Teague
The Bucks played against Jeff Teague Wednesday night in Milwaukee, and perhaps they make a push to sign him before he leaves town.
The Athletic’s Josh Robbins ($$) reported that the Boston Celtics had traded Teague and two second round picks to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Evan Fornier on Thursday. Still, Teague will not have to fly down south anytime soon. Robbins noted that Teague would not report to the team, and he will hit the open market as the Magic will waive him.
While Teague is not the flashiest name the Bucks could target to fill their point guard vacancy, he has some familiarity with Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer. The 32-year-old guard played under the two-time Coach of the Year previously with the Atlanta Hawks, earning his lone All-Star nomination with Budenholzer at the helm in 2014-15. Perhaps reuniting with his former coach could be of interest, particularly as the team is searching for a guard.
Teague’s production has been at its lowest in a decade this season, although playing a minimized role in Boston helped play into that. Averaging just 6.9 points on .415/.464/.836 shooting splits, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 34 appearances, his numbers certainly do not jump off the page.
Nevertheless, the guard checks off several boxes for the Bucks by giving them a traditional backup point guard with a handful of battle-tested experience. His defense is undoubtedly nothing to rave about, but Teague could be another option for this team on the market.
