Giannis Antetokounmpo has improved his transition game for the Milwaukee Bucks

Very few players command the kind of attention from opposing defenses like Antetokounmpo does when the Bucks get a stop and are setting up on the break.

Antetokounmpo has always been a one-man fastbreak and under Budenholzer, the Bucks have only increased their transition opportunities. This season, the Bucks rank first with 19.8 percent of their scoring opportunities coming in transition.

And just like in years past, Antetokounmpo is at the center of it all when it comes to the Bucks’ scoring prowess on fast break opportunities, considering he leads the league for the second straight year with 260 fast break points.

Aside from the raw scoring output he’s putting up in such situations, Antetokounmpo’s efficiency when navigating through walls of defenders in transition has improved considerably.

The two-time MVP is up to averaging 1.22 points per transition possession, which ranks in the 71st percentile of players this season. That comes after Antetokounmpo averaged 1.14 points per transition possession last year, which ranked in the 55th percentile.

Even for all of the personnel and systemic changes the Bucks have made this season, their bread and butter often comes when getting stops defensively and pushing the pace towards the other end. The fact that they have made such a considerable jump in efficiency on nearly the same volume of possessions and it’s helped Antetokounmpo feast even further has built a better foundation for success for both parties involved.
