The Milwaukee Bucks could pursue Bobby Portis in 2021 NBA Free Agency

One of the biggest questions for the Bucks this offseason revolves around what the future holds for Bobby Portis.

The big man signed with the team last offseason on a rather team-friendly deal to secure a spot on a contending roster. He certainly exceeded expectations from when he signed that contract by providing a massive boost off the bench all season, and after winning the championship, he will have a significant decision to make ahead regarding his player option. The big man has an option worth $3.8 million next season that would see him stay in Milwaukee, but all signs point to him opting out to seek more money.

After the effort he gave to help the Bucks hoist the championship trophy this season, no one could blame Portis for wanting to earn a raise. He has undoubtedly earned himself a deal far greater than the $3.8 million he would make by opting in, but that does not mean he will definitely take his talents elsewhere this offseason. Although money is tight, this front office has shown their willingness to be aggressive before, and keeping one of their key contributors in the second unit seems like a move worth chasing.

Ultimately, it will come down to whether or not Portis declines his player option for next season. The Bucks already know what Portis is capable of doing with his scoring, rebounding, hustle, and energy, and keeping him around as they look to defend their title next season would be an easy decision if both parties are interested.
