George Hill will run the second unit at point guard in his reunion with the Milwaukee Bucks

A familiar face has returned in free agency. After two seasons in Milwaukee, George Hill was sent to Oklahoma City in the trade for Jrue Holiday.

Eventually finding himself in Philadelphia, Hill found a limited role and began looking for options in free agency. After reuniting with the Bucks, his role is solidified as the backup facilitator. Hill is poised to make an immediate impact from beyond the arc. In his second season in Milwaukee, Hill cashed in on 46 percent of his 3-point attempts giving him the league’s best 3-point shooting percentage that season. In his stints with Oklahoma City and Philadelphia, Hill shot nearly 39 percent from 3-point range with both teams.

In a system such as Mike Budenholzer’s that has an emphasis on shooting from deep, Hill will be able to make an immediate impact. As Hill runs the second unit, he will be surrounded with talent which will help him work on his playmaking ability. Despite low averages in assists, Hill possesses the tools to be an excellent playmaker. His growth in that aspect will be something to watch during the 2021-22 season.

Hill is an aging guard at 35-years-old. However, his age will prove beneficial in his experience. His stint with Milwaukee provided productive seasons, and that should be expected once again. His impact from beyond the arc is going to be the key for the 35-year-old. Certainly, it is hard to live up to Holiday’s defensive ability, but that lockdown defense won’t be needed in the second unit as Milwaukee has one of the best defensive rosters currently. Hill was valuable in his previous time with Milwaukee, and his value will be needed once again.

With Hill in the backup facilitator role, Milwaukee will be given a spark in 3-point shooting. Adding a player such as Hill in free agency was crucial as Milwaukee retooled its backcourt. Look for immediate impacts from Hill as the 2021-22 season begins.
