Looking at Bryn Forbes’ fit and role with the Milwaukee Bucks last season

As previously mentioned, Forbes would make a name for himself with the Bucks due to his electric 3-point shooting. Coach Mike Budenholzer has emphasized the importance of a outside shooting since he took over three years ago, and Forbes was a player tailor-made to play under him.

Indeed, the guard would immediately earn a role in the rotation due to his shooting, and he was given the green light offensively. According to NBA.com/stats, Budenholzer most frequently paired Forbes with Giannis Antetokounmpo by having the pair share the floor for 698 minutes. It was the most time Forbes spent alongside any other teammate, and it was solely because the guard gave Antetokounmpo a reliable perimeter shooter.

The connection developed into something special rather quickly, and the abundance of open looks that it helped create for Forbes helped him have a career year shooting the basketball. Making 70 appearances with the Bucks in the regular season, Forbes would shoot a career-high 45.2 percent from the outside on 4.9 attempts per game. Those numbers helped the guard play just a tick over 19 minutes per game, finding himself a stable in the rotation for most of the regular season.

Ultimately, he right in seamlessly, which was on full display in the team’s first round series against the Miami Heat. In four games, Forbes averaged 15 points while shooting 52.5 percent from the field and an impressive 48.5 percent from behind the arc. Considering he shot an average of 8.3 attempts from three per game in Milwaukee’s four game sweep, it seems safe to say that he had fulfilled his role as a floor spacer. He was outright sensational in that series, and although his time would get cut as the postseason regressed, he was great for most of the season in his role.
