Milwaukee Bucks: Pat Connaughton is rated too low on NBA 2K22
Role players are always hit or miss when it comes to 2K ratings, and Pat Connaughton is a huge miss on their part. Connaughton is rated at 79 overall in 2K22, which is the exact same rating he had in 2K21, which, just like Portis, is not right. Given how significant of a role he played for the Bucks in the postseason and what he showed on the biggest stage, there is no justifiable reason why he should have stayed the same.
After being bombarded with criticism following a lackluster showing in the postseason in 2020, many might have said that Connaughton’s 73 overall for 2K21 was generous. While harsh, they might have had a point. However, to his credit, Connaughton silenced his doubters this past year as he increased his points, rebounds, minutes, and steals per game compared to the previous season. The biggest leap was his 3-point percentage, as Connaughton improved from a subpar 33.1 percent on 2.5 attempts in 2019-20 to 37.1 percent on 3.9 attempts in 2020-21. The guard improved mightily and quickly proved to be the most reliable reserve for coach Mike Budenholzer.
That trust helped him earn a prominent role in the rotation, oftentimes being the only second unit player to receive hefty minutes. His shooting, scoring, rebounding, and defense proved crucial in the playoffs as the Bucks would end their playoff drought. Most notably, Connaughton would hit the second-most triples in the 2021 NBA Finals with 15, one behind Middleton and Jae Crowder. His postseason effort alone should have increased his rating by a few ticks, as keeping him stuck at a 73 overall is a travesty.
