Top moments from Milwaukee Bucks’ title run: Giannis Antetokounmpo’s block against Deandre Ayton in Game 4 seals the deal
Middleton’s 40 point scoring barrage in Game 4 of the Finals certainly helped push the Bucks to a win, but it was Antetokounmpo who stole the show. Rather than doing it with scoring, the future Finals MVP was plastered on every sports show for the next several days because of a late-game block on Phoenix’s Deandre Ayton.
Middleton had just hit a jumper to give the Bucks a 101-99 lead late in the fourth quarter, and the Suns had a plan in mind. Booker drove down the court and tossed up an alley-oop pass to Ayton, who looked like he would throw down a dunk to tie the game. However, Antetokounmpo had other plans in mind as he leaped into the air and emphatically blocked the shot. The Fiserv Forum crowd erupted in cheer as the Bucks got the board and would win the game soon after.
Given the magnitude of the play in real-time and the pure skill it took for Antetokounmpo to block that shot, it is viewed as one of the best plays in Finals history. There is a short list of players that could make that play, and thankfully, Antetokounmpo was one of them. Some say it is the best blocked shot in league history, and while it is arguable, there is certainly a case to be made.
