Free agents the Milwaukee Bucks rightfully did not pursue – Enes Kanter

Enes Kanter is a decent basketball player, he’s a good offensive rebounder and solid finisher. However, he is a liability on defense and can’t be trusted to protect the rim and would not fare as well against a guy like Deandre Ayton as Brook Lopez did, which is why he would have been a bad fit for this Bucks team.

While Kanter can score in the paint, he doesn’t suit the Bucks’ roster construction because his career 3-point percentage sits at just 28.6. Giannis Antetokounmpo needs shooters around him, not guys who need to be in the paint to be effective on offense (foreshadowing). After all, look at how Lopez has improved his outside shot since signing with the Bucks in 2018. The big man has fully embraced letting it fly from behind the arc to free up space for Antetokounmpo to go to work, which is something that Kanter simply cannot do.

Casting all skill-based evaluations aside, one more reason Kanter would not be a good fit for the Bucks is that Kanter (like Blake Griffin) has gotten into it with Antetokounmpo on more than one occasion. The two have their history of not liking one another, and bringing in someone like that would seem like an odd move. Sure, these are professionals and they could always put it behind them, but better safe than sorry in this case.
