The Milwaukee Bucks should be excited about Grayson Allen in 2021-22

Trading for Grayson Allen was the biggest splash of Milwaukee’s offseason. Since the trade, fans have debated whether or not Allen should be the team’s new starting shooting guard. Well, with Donte DiVincenzo revealing that he has not begun 5-on-5 basketball yet following season-ending surgery in June, Allen’s case to take the court as a starter opening night is clear-cut.

Allen’s skill set should help him fit right in with the defending champions. He has developed into a solid outside shooter that is capable of scoring double digits on a nightly basis. The guard is better known for his intensity on the floor, which is something this Bucks team needs after the departure of Tucker in free agency. One area of his game that Allen hopes to build on in Milwaukee is his play on the defensive end, which he thinks should not be a problem with such a defensive-minded unit.

"“People talk about me being a fiery competitor in college, I was terrible at defense in college, though. So that’s something I’ve gotten better at once I got to the league and I think last year was a huge step forward for me defensively and I think that’s something I’ll continue to build on, especially being part of a culture that is a really good defensive culture. I think the only way to go is up playing here.”"

Playing alongside Antetokounmpo, Holiday, Khris Middleton, and Brook Lopez should certainly help Allen improve his defense, helping form a lethal defensive lineup. If he can knock down his outside shots in addition to this defensive intensity, Allen should feel right at home with his new team. Who knows, if all breaks right, Allen could be the team’s long-term shooting guard as he is currently eligible for an extension.

This list is not a knock on Rodney Hood, Sandro Mamukelashvili, or any of the other newcomers, but these three look like they will have the biggest impact.
