3 potential breakout candidates for the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021: Donte DiVincenzo

Another returning player as Donte DiVincenzo faces an uphill battle to have a breakout fourth NBA season, but he has the talent to be the most impactful breakout player for the Bucks this season. He likely won’t be ready for the start of the season and when he does return from injury and he’ll be brought along slowly by the training and coaching staff. However, there should be an opportunity for him when he is fully healthy.

DiVincenzo has yet to put together a consistent season of sustained production, but he did finish last season having shot nearly 38 percent on over five 3 point attempts per game last season. It was a big step up from the 31.8 percent he shot in his first two seasons and he’s seen his 3 point percentage improve each season. If he can get that number even higher this season, then that would be a massive step for him to earning a new contract from the Bucks.

He’s also gotten better as a defender and although he’s can gamble a bit too much for steals and deflections, he has improved on his feel for when to take those chances and limiting how often he gets out of position because of them. He’s an important part of what the Bucks do defensively and having him back for the playoffs this year will be a huge boost.

The areas I’m looking for DiVincenzo to improve on and become the Bucks breakout candidate are his turnovers and his finishing at the rim. The 24-year-old has gotten more on-ball responsibility the last two seasons, but he has also been a bit turnover-prone with the increased touches. His finishing was generally above average in his first two seasons but took a major step back last year. Hopefully, that’s simply an outlier and he’ll convert at a higher rate this year to fully take advantage of his burst and knack for grabbing offensive rebounds.
