3 overreactions to the Milwaukee Bucks first 3 games: Is it time to put Jrue Holiday in the 3-point contest?

We all remember the Bucks campaign in the 2018-19 season to get Pat Connaughton in the dunk contest. It eventually worked, and Connaughton did some fun stuff but ultimately didn’t win. Well, it’s time to bring back the social media campaign but put their powers towards getting Jrue Holiday in the 3-point contest.

That’s right, after wondering about who would fill the Bryn Forbes role this offseason, we appear to have found that person in the Bucks starting point guard. It was right under our nose the entire time! We picked some very good candidates, but how could we forget about the man who had a career-high percentage from 3 last season?

Holiday has taken it a step further this season by shooting a modest 62.5 percent from 3-point range on four attempts per game. His 82.9 percent true shooting is would be by far the highest in NBA history if the season ended today and exactly half of his shot attempts have come from 3.

Holiday has never been known as a 3-point marksman throughout his career, but it appears the Bucks development system has unlocked something from the 31-year-old guard. Many outside of Bucks Twitter said that Holiday’s contract was a massive overpay, but what they didn’t factor in was that he would become one of the league’s very best and most efficient players.

I, for one, welcome this new world where Holiday is a lethal shooter from beyond and will force teams to go over every screen, opening up a whole new world of possibilities for the Giannis-Jrue inverted pick and roll game that the Bucks like to run. Heck, they should probably start running more off-ball screens for him too, that’s probably why they brought in an extra ball-handler in George Hill.

The Milwaukee Bucks have only played three games, but there’s a lot that can be taken from their stat lines, as we can see.
