No. 2: George Hill has been cleaning the glass for the Milwaukee Bucks

It’s been no secret that the Bucks have been struggling to rebound the ball in the early season, mostly because they have been without Brook Lopez for all but one game. That has led to some ugly rebounding numbers with a severe lack of depth in the frontcourt.

So what has happened is that other players have had to chip in on the glass. One of those players who has stepped up is Hill. Through eight games, his four rebounds per game are the second-highest for his career and per 36 minutes, his 5.5 boards per game are the highest. That is also true for his rebounding rate at 7.9 percent, also the highest number of his career.

The rebounding rate is a full percent higher than his last season in Milwaukee and a half rebound more per game. Hill has always been a relatively active rebounder for a guard, especially on the offensive end and even more so in his years as a Buck. His three highest offensive rebounding rates have been in his years with the Bucks and he is nearly posting a four percent offensive rebounding rate this season. Per Cleaning the Glass, Hill’s offensive rebounding rate is in the 88th percentile among combo guards this season.

It makes sense that Hill can be a contributor on the offensive glass given his size and relative athleticism at his age. But individual rebounding numbers only matter so much, what’s key is the team rebounding when a player is on the floor and the Bucks allow fewer offensive rebounds when Hill is out there as opposed to when he’s off. That is the most important factor and he is doing his best to pitch in to improve their rebounding woes.
