Semi Ojeleye has been a dud for the Milwaukee Bucks

It would have been a challenge to script a tougher start for Semi Ojeleye over the first 10 games of his Bucks tenure. First off, the forward has only appeared in five regular season matchups after a calf strain sidelined him for the entire preseason and into the 2021-22 campaign. Everyone was anxious to see how he would perform once he was cleared to play, and the early returns have not been what many hoped to see.

Ojeleye has been a non-factor for the Bucks offensively, scoring nine points on 3-of-18 shooting, including a vile 1-of-13 from the perimeter. Now, to be fair, Milwaukee did not sign Ojeleye during the offseason to provide a scoring spark off their bench, as he is a defensive player. However, he is having a horrifically bad start to the year on that side of the ball. This is the same player that shot 37.2 percent from behind the arc over the past two seasons, but that Ojeleye has been nowhere to be found early for Milwaukee. The Bucks signed Ojeleye for his defensive stature, and he has been serviceable on that side of things throughout his five games, but nothing incredible.

To be fair, Ojeleye is coming off an injury here, and five games is undoubtedly a small sample size to judge a player that missed the entire preseason and had little time to practice with the team. It has not been pretty from Ojeleye thus far, but he can certainly turn things around, as there are 72 more regular season games left to play. That should give him no shortage of time to find his stride with the Bucks and help them in their quest to repeat as champions. Finding any consistency with his outside shooting would be a great first step in that regard.
