How will the Milwaukee Bucks slow down Atlanta Hawks star guard Trae Young?

After facing him in last season’s Conference Finals, the Bucks know how lethal Trae Young can be. The All-Star guard is having yet another solid season, and slowing him down will be a tall task for whichever defender Milwaukee throws in his direction.

Likely due to Atlanta’s slow start, Young’s efforts this season have flown under the radar to this point. The 23-year-old guard is currently fifth in points scored this season, while second in assists dished out. That one-two punch will keep the Bucks on their toes as the guard is capable of heaving a triple from several feet behind the arc but also able to make the crafty pass. Another area that will be worth keeping an eye on is Young’s free throw attempts. Young is tied for the sixth-most free throws this year with 66, as he has always had a knack for getting to the line.

Holiday will likely be Young’s primary defender, which is Milwaukee’s best bet. The All-Defensive honoree has that previous experience guarding Young and will do his part to keep him in check. Yet, it would not be surprising to see the team throw different bodies in his direction, with one name being Semi Ojeleye. The Bucks often threw P.J. Tucker at Young last postseason to give Holiday a breather, and Ojeleye, who has been impressive defensively this year, will likely earn minutes guarding Young. Whoever gets the assignment of slowing down Young must limit his contributions, whether it is scoring, facilitating, or drawing fouls.
