One of the Milwaukee Bucks’ worst lineups: Holiday/Allen/Connaughton/Antetokounmpo/Portis

We all know that Khris Middleton is one of the best 25-30 players in the entire league and that there’s a big difference between him and Pat Connaughton, but the stark contrast in these lineups by simply swapping out Middleton for Connaughton is astonishing.

In 20 minutes together (still a small sample, but about the same as the previous lineup), that group has posted a horrendous -48.4 net rating. So what is so different about these two lineups?

First of all, the assist rate drops by nearly 20 percent to around 55.6 percent with this group, which makes some sense. Middleton is one of the best playmakers on the team and when teams can key in more on Antetokounmpo and stay home on shooters, it makes life harder.

The offensive rebounding rate is higher with this group, due to Connaughton being a more aggressive offensive rebounder than Middleton, but their overall rebounding rate is down.

It’s a lineup that plays very fast with a 112.18 pace, but that isn’t always a recipe for success. It has led to a higher turnover rate compared to the first lineup and they aren’t scoring well enough at all with a putrid 89.4 offensive rating.

This is a lineup that should perform better over time and I’d like to see them go to it a little more, but so far it has been very bad in their limited time together.
