Trade No. 3 – Milwaukee Bucks add serious pop off the bench with Alec Burks

The Knicks have had a very disappointing start to a season they expected to be competing for homecourt advantage, starting at 16-18. They may show a willingness to sell some pieces if their year continues down the path it is currently going., and one of those pieces is explosive bench scorer Alec Burks.

Burks is having a solid season, scoring 11.4 points per game on 41 percent shooting from three. The Bucks, although very deep, have shown a tendency over the past couple of years to get cold from 3-point range at the worst times, such as the 2021 playoffs, where they shot 32 percent from three over the entire run. This trade provides more assurance that it will not happen again. Burks has had four 20 point games this year and shot 46 percent from three over the month of November, showing the ability to get extremely hot over a significant period of time.

One concern Bucks fans might have with this trade is that the Bucks lose both their primary ball handlers off the bench with Donte DiVincenzo and George Hill. Although that point is very valid, Burks has shown an ability to play point guard and play it well, with two of his 20 point games this year coming as the starting point guard for the Knicks. Also, Burks likely would be able to play off-ball a lot on this Bucks team, as Coach Budenholzer has liked running lineups with Jrue Holiday and the bench. On the Knicks side of this deal, they get two gritty players who fit the identity of Coach Thibodeau, especially DiVincenzo, who would endear himself to New York very quickly with his hustle plays and solid defense.
