Do the Milwaukee Bucks know something good about Brook Lopez’s rehab?
The only reason why the Bucks are in this position in the first place is due to Brook Lopez’s health. After appearing in the season opener, Lopez missed every game for Milwaukee this season due to back issues, which he had a procedure on back in November. That decision put the Cousins signing in motion, as he was viewed as a solid backup to fill in momentarily. With Cousins now out of the picture, many are questioning what his release means for Lopez.
Shortly after Lopez’s surgery, there was optimism that the big man could return at some point down the line this season, as reported by The Athletic’s Eric Nehm (subscription required). It remains a real possibility that Lopez is progressing well, but despite the optimism, there is still no way he is close to ready following the surgery. It is near impossible to speculate with injuries, even more so with a 33-year-old center coming off back surgery, but perhaps Lopez is well ahead of schedule and is doing even better than many initially expected? The Bucks are known to keep all things injury-related behind closed doors, so they will not acknowledge whether or not that is the case, but that would be the best-case scenario right now.
Hopefully Lopez is doing well and can make his return to the court for the Bucks this season. That would make this move much more justifiable, but right now, all we can do is wait. If the Bucks do have a plan behind all this, it will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Stay tuned for any updates on that front as the Milwaukee Bucks prepare for some moves.
