Is this a showcase game for the Milwaukee Bucks against the Sacramento Kings?

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Bucks had several pro personnel at a Kings game. Any time there’s a significant number of pro personnel at a game this close to the trade deadline, alarm bells start to sound.

I said then that it would be unlikely for the two teams to find a trade to work. The good players that the Bucks would be interested in are either too expensive or too valuable for what the Bucks could offer. Still, it’s never a bad time to hope and dream so this game could be a little showcase opportunity for both sides.

The Kings have obviously had an interest in DiVincenzo in the past so that could be a name for them to keep an eye on. Sure, he’s struggled, but he has shown that he can be a valuable defender and can knock down 3-pointers in the past (like last season).

Beyond that, if they were to make a minor more for one of the Kings’ cheaper depth players, then this would be another chance for them to get a look at some of them. A guy like Tristan Thompson could be a potential buyout candidate for the Kings, who aren’t contending and he hasn’t gotten much playing time for them recently as they use younger players.

However, fans watching tonight’s game and hoping that they’ll swing a bigger move for Buddy Hield, Harrison Barnes, or Richaun Holmes will have to temper their expectations because of those respective players’ salaries.

It was likely simply a situation where the Bucks were doing their due diligence on the Kings’ roster as it has become clear that they’re going to be sellers at the deadline and Milwaukee was taking look at some potential smaller options that could be had for a smaller price (like Rodney Hood or Semi Ojeleye and a second-round pick).

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how the Bucks handle the fast-approaching trade deadline and what type of move they’ll make to bolster their roster for a championship defense.
