The Athletic’s buyout targets for the Milwaukee Bucks – Thaddeus Young

Nehm’s next buyout target for the Bucks is Thaddeus Young, who might just be the top player on most teams’ lists. Young was dealt to the San Antonio Spurs this past offseason, and the forward has largely been an afterthought in the rotation. With Young playing a career-low 13.9 minutes per game, there have been some murmurs that he could eventually hit the buyout market. If that does happen and Young is available, the Bucks should throw their hat in the mix of interested suitors.

Young would be a fitting target for the Bucks due to their lack of size right now with Brook Lopez on the sidelines due to his back issues. At 6-foot-8, the forward could provide a hulking presence off the bench behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to alleviate some of the workload off their shoulders nightly. His strong defense would make him an easy fit with the Bucks, giving them another quality defender to throw at opposing bigs nightly. Offensively, Young has been a double-digit scorer throughout his career and could provide a spark off the bench for this subpar scoring unit.

As the Bucks look to stay afloat without Lopez for the time being, adding a quality big man in Young would be a wise move on all fronts. For the time being, they can only keep a close eye on the situation to see if the 33-year-old becomes available. If so, the champs may face some stiff competition in trying to persuade him to join the team. Nevertheless, they should make a run at him, given what he would bring to the table.
