Does Jon Horst have an Executive of the Year case for Milwaukee Bucks?

Everyone already knows that Jon Horst has done a tremendous job in his time as general manager of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Since taking over as GM of the team in 2017, Horst has turned the team into a consistent winner and built a team that won the NBA Championship in 2021. Despite all of his success, you very rarely hear about Horst when discussing the league’s best executives. It’s interesting that Horst is forgotten in discussions of elite executives, but that’s just something that comes with being in a small market like Milwaukee.

Horst has already won an Executive of the Year Award as general manager of the Bucks after assembling a roster that went 60-22 and finished with the best record in the NBA in the 2018-2019 season. Could he be on his way to winning the award again?

NBA general managers have a very difficult job.

In a league where superstars can easily grow frustrated, general managers are charged with the task of trying to keep their stars and entire locker room happy. Horst has been excellent with keeping everybody happy, as drama is very rarely seen in Milwaukee when compared to other organizations. There are a lot of players in Milwaukee that would likely have bigger roles on other teams, but Horst and company have managed to keep players satisfied in their roles.

There are a few players on Milwaukee’s team that would likely see bigger minutes and brighter spotlight on other teams, but Horst has done a wonderful job of finding the right ones. Bobby Portis is one player that easily could have left after his productive season last year, but being a fan favorite and winning in Milwaukee was more important than getting a massive payday elsewhere.
