The pros of the Milwaukee Bucks signing Tyreke Evans
There are a handful of reasons why the Bucks’ rumored interest in Evans makes sense and why it should lead to a signing if he performs well in the G-League.
A lack of bench depth is a significant reason why the defending champions should be in on Evans, as they are down some key contributors in the second unit. Pat Connaughton has been sidelined for over a month as he recovers from a fractured hand, and while his return should be close, there is not one specific date listed just yet. Given how important he is to Milwaukee, the team will not rush him back by any means. One Buck that gave the team much-needed depth in Connaughton’s absence was DeAndre’ Bembry, who is unfortunately set to miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL and MCL. While players like Jevon Carter and Wesley Matthews have stepped up during these difficult times, adding another piece for depth would not hurt.
Another interesting aspect of Evans that could make him a compelling addition to the Bucks is his second unit scoring potential. Milwaukee’s bench production has been among their most notable weaknesses, as they are bottom five in points, field goal percentage, rebounds, and assists this season, according to NBA.com/stats. While the rotation will shorten once the postseason begins and the Bucks will not rely as heavily on their bench, Evans could potentially help with the scoring load when called upon. The 10-year veteran averaged 15.7 points per game throughout his career as he was a prolific scorer, and while there are questions about whether he can replicate that type of scoring prowess, it would be a feasible move for the Bucks to bring him on as the 15th man.
