Will we see the same Milwaukee Bucks starters for tonight’s game?

The other source of frustration has been Wesley Matthews taking over in the starting lineup for Grayson Allen!

Allen had started basically every game he played this year but, all of a sudden, against the Philadelphia 76ers, Budenholzer dropped Matthews in and many thought it would be a single game thing so they would be better equipped to handle James Harden and Tyrese Maxey.

That has not been the case!

Matthews had his worst game of the season, at least by plus/minus where he was a minus-27 in a six-point loss. Now, single-game plus/minus is very noisy and not the best indicator of overall impact but when you’re that big of a minus (or plus) something happened.

Trying to predict what the Bucks will do tends to be a fruitless endeavor but this also seems like a game that Budenholzer could justify starting Matthews again. The Bulls started DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine along with Ayo Dosunmu and Alex Caruso, so getting a more switchable lineup (which Matthews allows them to do) would be beneficial.

Matthews has guarded DeRozan more than anyone not named Kevin Durant this season and DeRozan has shot 11-of-23 against him (47.8 percent). It’s not jaw-dropping (like holding Durant to under 40 percent shooting on 2s), but it’s solid. DeRozan is shooting 52 percent on 2s this season and has been a scoring machine all year so I’d expect we see Matthews again.

I’m not against starting Matthews for certain matchups, like against the Brooklyn Nets, but there are going to be games (like against the Dallas Mavericks) where it doesn’t make sense.

I’m all for trying different things during the regular season so I’ll withhold my torch and pitchfork until the playoffs.
