No. 3 – Pat Connaughton needs to start for the Milwaukee Bucks and play some considerable minutes in Game 7 versus the Boston Celtics

In a hard-fought series where the Milwaukee Bucks’ supporting cast has largely failed to step up, Pat Connaughton has gone against the grain.

The guard is averaging 11.7 points while shooting 58.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point territory. In a series where seemingly no player on the roster has been able to knock down a 3-pointer, Connaughton has been the exception. He has provided a sizeable boost offensively in this series, which was on full display in Game 6. Connaughton was the Bucks’ second-best player in that matchup, having scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three to help give the Bucks a chance. After that stellar performance, the Bucks need him more than ever back on the road in Game 7.

Perhaps the most frustrating part about Connaughton in this series is that he is playing just over a minute more than Allen on average. Considering Connaughton has been a far better player on both ends of the basketball, that needs to change. Not only should Connaughton take Allen’s spot in the starting lineup, but he should take a significant chunk of his playing time as well. Given how stellar Connaughton has shot the basketball and given the team a spark in this series, they need him out on the floor as much as possible. Connaughton can provide some reliability from 3-point land and also hold his own enough defensively to justify giving him significant minutes, unlike a majority of the others in this supporting cast.

The Milwaukee Bucks will take the floor in a do-or-die Game 7 today, and these adjustments could be the key to coming out on top on the road.
