The Memphis Grizzlies could lure Jevon Carter away from the Milwaukee Bucks in NBA free agency

Another intriguing option for Jevon Carter if he were to leave the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason would be to return to his former stomping grounds with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Memphis could potentially have a backup point guard opening depending on what transpires with Tyus Jones this offseason. Jones proved to be one of the best backups in the business this season as he put together the best year of his career, and he could possibly earn himself a hefty raise on a new team. If the Grizzlies do lose Jones, they could look to find a solid backup in Carter, who began his career there after they took him in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft.

Carter would be a great fit with the up-and-coming Grizzlies, giving them a serviceable backup to take on some of the workload when Ja Morant is off the floor. Although he would not provide the scoring spark or facilitating that Jones could, Carter would leave his mark nightly with his robust defense and quality ball-handling, both of which could be incredibly useful. Furthermore, Carter would not break the bank, as he would be an affordable option for Memphis to consider if Jones ends up being beyond their price range.

Ultimately, this move will hinge on what happens with Jones. If he ends up back with the Grizzlies, they will not need to pursue Carter, but if he leaves, then it would make sense to see them make a run at their former player. Carter will likely be seeking a prominent opportunity in free agency after being shelved down the stretch for the Bucks, and the Grizzlies could possibly be the perfect place to hand him a significant role off the bench, but only time will tell how things transpire. In theory, his fit with the franchise makes complete sense.
