Reason No. 2 why the Milwaukee Bucks must retain Pat Connaughton – His hustle

Whilst Connaughton contributes to most parts of the box score, something that isn’t measured is hustle. No matter when he is put into a game and no matter the score, he always gives 100 percent and you can see that in his performance.

He doesn’t let a bad shooting night on his part stop him from shooting the ball and that’s important. His off-ball movement is easily ignored however it can be just as important as him sinking a corner 3. Whilst his teammates are shooting the ball, The Bucks’ number 24 is busy moving, stretching the floor, and keeping the defense busy and in turn, opening up opportunities for his teammates.

There was a running joke last season watching Pat Connaughton close-out shooters – he more often than not found himself in the front row of seats after closing down a 3-point shot. Some saw it as detrimental to the team’s defence but on the flip side, it showed the effort he was putting into every aspect of his game. This season, he has stopped that and is more conservative in closing out shooters, albeit still being effective and never giving up on a play.

Not many players would be content at being a role player on a team, especially after such a great season but Connaughton doesn’t seem bothered. To him, the most important thing is the team and if by him being a role player helps the team then he’ll give 100 percent every night as he does.
