Unfortunately for the Bucks, Brook Lopez will not be around forever. While he still definitely has some games left in the tank, it is important the Bucks look towards the future. While some were calling for a trade during the 2020-2021 season, it was Brook’s ability to stay on the floor in crunch time that helped to propel the Bucks to their first ring in 50 years.

The importance of Brook can be seen on both ends of the floor. On defense, Brook has become one of the league’s premier drop defenders. His ability to bother ball handlers while staying attached to the screener is otherworldly, and gave Head Coach Mike Budenholzer the ability to effectively utilize that coverage throughout the playoffs. Additionally, his presence at the rim prevented countless shots that normally are high percentage looks for opponents, both of these functions were crucial to the operation of the Bucks’ base defense.

In order to continue to compete in the coming years, a Brook-in-waiting will be needed. Here are a few options in this year’s draft:

  • Jaylin Williams – 6’10” C, Arkansas
  • John Butler – 7’1″ C, Florida State
  • Orlando Robinson – 6’11” C, Fresno State
