Otto Porter Jr. could be a target for the Milwaukee Bucks in NBA free agency

Otto Porter Jr. had himself quite a redemption story this past season. After appearing in 42 games over the previous two NBA seasons due to various injuries, Porter signed a “prove it deal” with the Golden State Warriors last offseason. The forward quickly found his footing with the Warriors and eventually became a key starter in the NBA Finals, which helped the team capture a championship. Porter will now hit unrestricted free agency, and the Milwaukee Bucks should make a spirited run at the former first round pick.

Porter’s shooting would make him a good fit with the Bucks, as he has knocked down 39.8 percent of his career triples on 3.3 attempts on average. That marksmanship alone could put Porter on the list of feasible free agent targets for Milwaukee, but the veteran forward checks off several other boxes that the team needs to address this offseason, which could amplify his desirability further. The 6-foot-8 Porter would bring some much-needed versatility into the mix as he can play either forward position, meaning he could satisfy Milwaukee’s need for a small ball power forward. When the Bucks go to their smaller lineups with Giannis Antetokounmpo at center, they need a quality forward alongside him to bring defense and solid shooting, which Porter could provide.

There are questions regarding what Porter’s value may be in free agency. Though his numbers were not the flashiest, he proved to be a pivotal piece in Golden State’s title run, and he may be rewarded for that. The Warriors could very well look to keep Porter as they aim to defend their title next season, and that could be a desirable avenue for him as well. If he were to leave, the forward would have plenty of interested suitors, and it would be captivating to see what he may command on the market. If his price range is within the realm of possibility for the Bucks, they should not hesitate to pursue his services.
