Burning free agency questions for the Milwaukee Bucks: Will Bobby Portis remain in Milwaukee?

While it is believed that the Milwaukee Bucks and Bobby Portis have mutual interest in keeping Portis in Milwaukee, it isn’t a guarantee that Bobby Portis will be back.

When the season ended Bobby Portis was non-committal about his future in Milwaukee, saying in his exit interview that it would be up to his agent to make it work. So while it sounds like Portis wants to be back in Milwaukee, it also sounds like the price needs to be right and likely will go up. Bobby Portis is definitely deserving of a pay raise, especially after taking a team friendly deal last season after a stellar first season in Milwaukee, a season that ended in a championship.

Bobby Portis played a massive role for the Bucks in his second year with the team last season, playing the starting center role after Brook Lopez started the season opener and then was out until a few games before the playoffs, Bobby Portis started 59 games for the Bucks during the 2021-22 season.

If the Bucks are unable to re-sign Bobby Portis after he opts out of his player option, which he is expected to do but has until today to do so, the Bucks will have a lot of work to do to replace the production Portis has brought to the team. While it was reported by Marc Stein that many in the league expect Portis back on the Bucks, fans, myself included, won’t be reassured that Portis is back in Milwaukee until the pen hits the paper, hopefully sooner than later.
