3 Takeaways From the Milwaukee Bucks’ First Summer League Game
Takeaways from the Milwaukee Bucks’ first summer league game: Sandro Mamukelashvili continues to impress
It is fair to wonder what kind of NBA player Sandro Mamukelashvili will become while with the Milwaukee Bucks. He has an incredibly versatile offensive skill-set, seeing as he’s a 6’10” forward with guard skills and has a serviceable outside shot. Still, his fit in the Bucks system is a bit of a mystery, as he isn’t yet a true floor spacer, and he has a lot of work to do defensively.
Mamu and the Bucks are still in the honeymoon phase, so that he has done enough for the Bucks to want to keep him around to see what kind of developmental leaps he can make. Last summer, he dazzled with his ability to get to the rim and pass off the bounce. This summer, it seems like Mamu is determined to show his improvements in other areas of the game, as he went 4-5 from the 3-point line and looked noticeably more comfortable defending in the pick and roll.
While “more comfortable defending in the pick and roll” for Mamu still has work to do from an objective standpoint, it was good to see that he has been working on that, as it will likely be the difference between whether or not he sticks around in the league. Unfortunately, there remain areas of his game that aren’t workable, such as his height and smaller wingspan, that will make it difficult for him to develop past a rotation piece. Nonetheless, Sandro possesses a very rare skill-set that could turn out to be extremely useful for the Bucks, and his performance against the Nets was a nice step forward in his development.
