Over the past several weeks, there has been nothing but silence regarding the Milwaukee Bucks.
That changed early Monday morning when The Athletic’s Shams Charania (subscription required) reported that the Bucks touched base with the Brooklyn Nets regarding Kevin Durant’s current availability. Of course, Durant requested a trade from the Nets in late June and has made it clear that he does not want to suit up for the franchise once again as things stand. It is interesting to think about the Milwaukee Bucks reaching out to test the waters on acquiring Durant.
Reactions to the Milwaukee Bucks inquiring about a Kevin Durant trade
First and foremost, it was reported that the Bucks called the Nets to merely “gauge the price tag” on a Durant trade. It would be a disservice if general manager Jon Horst did not at least make the phone call to Brooklyn to kick the tires on acquiring the 12-time All-Star, given that it is his job to always explore avenues to potentially improve the roster. Horst is not alone in that regard, as the entire league is seemingly calling the Nets to make an offer for Durant as of late.
At this point, it does not seem too likely that Durant will be a Buck, as there are other teams that are far more well-equipped to pull off a blockbuster trade for the two-time Finals MVP. Charania reported that the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, and Toronto Raptors remain the top threats to land Durant at the moment. However, things can change in an instant in this league, and fans will keep an eye on the situation until things are resolved. Whether Horst’s call to Brooklyn was just a due diligence call or legitimate interest, here are the pros and cons of the Bucks going after KD.
