Milwaukee Bucks trade target wings not named Jae Crowder: Jarred Vanderbilt

Arguably the least likely because his price tag will certainly be higher than salary fillers and second round picks, is Jarred Vanderbilt of the Utah Jazz. Vanderbilt also doesn’t quite fit the term “veteran” but is in his fifth NBA season. The Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz have had tons of back and forth while Jon Horst was aggressively targeting Jordan Clarkson this off-season and into the regular season; perhaps the two teams could resume talks centered around another player?

Jarred Vanderbilt is just 23 years old and could become a large part of the Milwaukee Bucks’ future by injecting youth into the this roster, which is among the oldest in the entire NBA. However, Vanderbilt is likely to incur the cost of the Bucks trading either the developing rookie MarJon Beauchamp or the Milwaukee Bucks’ 2029 first round draft pick. The latter is more likely of interest as the Bucks may not be as competitive six years from now as they are in 2023, potentially making the pick higher.

Vanderbilt, if acquirable, would be a fantastic fit for the Bucks. Vanderbilt stands 6-foot-9 and weighs in at 214 pounds, Vanderbilt is not only a versatile frontcourt defender but also makes 3-point shots at over 34 percent. Vanderbilt is averaging 8.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists this season, so he really contributes in several ways on both ends of the floor.

The cost for Jarred Vanderbilt may be high. However, if Jon Horst is willing to go all-in and pay that price it could be a move that pays dividends for years to come.
