3 Possible buyout candidates the Milwaukee Bucks should avoid – Will Barton
Around this time, the Bucks could use one extra shooter in the playoffs who will make timely shots and can help space the floor consistently; that’s not Will Barton.
Will Barton is a fine shooter in the regular season, but he’s not a good shooter in the playoffs. Barton is a career 33 percent shooter from three in the playoffs and a sub-40 percent shooter from the field. Barton has also not been a stellar defender this season. Milwaukee adding another wing who hasn’t shot well from the postseason in his career and is iffy defensively isn’t a recipe for success.
Barton averaged 7.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists for the Washington Wizards in 40 games played this season. The Wizards agreed to a contract buyout with Barton last week.
Milwaukee roster-wise wouldn’t be a good fit because Barton had a limited role with Washington; the same thing will happen with him in Milwaukee. On the roster, the Bucks have Wesley Matthews, Pat Connaughton, and Grayson Allen. Milwaukee has an influx of wings that all play Barton’s position and with the playoff rotation down to 9-10 guys, Barton wouldn’t crack the postseason rotation.
Milwaukee needs to add players who can shoot and defend at a high level. Will Barton at this stage is a hot and cold player, and while some fans like the idea, they should stay away.
