3 Possible buyout candidates the Milwaukee Bucks should avoid – John Wall

The Bucks could use another guard, but John Wall is not the answer.

Similar to Derrick Rose, watching John Wall during his first few years in the league was eye-popping. Blinding speed, a quick first step, and athleticism. At one point, Wall was one of the fastest point guards in the league. But those days are long behind him as a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in 2019 put his career path to a screeching halt, and will be on his fourth team in the last four years.

With his lightning first step gone, Wall isn’t a good 3-point shooter (32 percent for his career) and doesn’t shoot well from the field (40 percent).

Wall is Derrick Rose but younger. Both had dynamic starts to their career and both had serious debilitating injuries that robbed them of their athletic prowess. Both sat out a year for those injuries, and both won’t recapture the form they once had.

I don’t see John Wall being a backup point guard to Jrue Holiday because once you were a star in this league, it’s hard to put your ego aside and accept a backup role.

Wall has also missed time this season with an abdominal injury, so could Milwaukee rely on him to stay healthy as they make their stretch run? It’s not a risk worth taking so I think the Bucks should sit out the John Wall sweepstakes.
