3 Best individual Bucks performances of the 2022-23 regular season – Brook did what?: 03-09-2023

Brook Lopez has had the best year of his career and is my pick for the Defensive Player of the Year. This performance from him against the Brooklyn Nets was simply outrageous.

Brook registered nine blocks while still putting up 24 points. Per Statmuse, it was the highest number of blocks by a player in a game this season, and his defense and shot blocking has been the biggest improvement of his game this season.

The performance saw Lopez showing off all kinds of blocks and how he has elevated to become one of the league’s best shot blockers. He had chase down blocks, standing blocks as players drove to the paint, and even when his teammates were beaten, he dropped down and swatted the ball into the stands.

With his DPOY candidacy, his offense has gone largely unnoticed by many, but in this game, he was on fire as he patrolled the paint. He scored 24 points on 50 percent shooting and hit three shots from beyond the arc in a game where the Bucks were without Giannis and looked to their other big men to step up.

Alongside Bobby Portis in the frontcourt, both players registered double-doubles with over 20 points each and both amassed at least 10 rebounds. If Lopez had added one more block, who knows what social media would have been like had he got that triple-double and become the 26th member of the exclusive club of players registering a triple-double with 10 plus blocks, per Statmuse.

It was a performance that further boosted his case to be the DPOY, and if he plays like this in the playoffs then the Bucks will go far.
