3. Take trade calls on Connaughton and Allen

Bringing back Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez will put the Bucks firmly in second tax apron territory. The new mechanism was put in place in the CBA to limit the highest spending teams. Franchises now face roster building, trade, and spending restrictions if they exceed the limit. Some teams are viewing it as a hard cap to avoid completely, but others seem willing to go into that territory so far.

The Bucks have to build a title contender around Giannis Antetokounmpo, but they could look to trim their payroll on the edges. Keeping Grayson Allen and Pat Connaughton at a combined $18.3 million next season is a luxury. Both played under 28 minutes per game last season with Allen pushing close to 30 a night in the playoffs.

Salary dumping Connaughton and signing a minimum player could be the difference between being over or under the second apron.

Neither player would have tremendous trade value, but the cost savings could be worth it if someone values either for even a second-round pick.

The Milwaukee Bucks have to walk a fine line as they attempt to stay under the second tax apron and remain committed to the franchise’s top priority.
