The verdict on Robin Lopez’s one-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks

All in all, this is a fine move by the Bucks. It’s not the best move they could have made, but it’s also not the worst one they could have made.

The big knock on this deal is that if the Bucks were looking to add a center, Mo Bamba would have been the better option. Bamba signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on a minimum deal shortly after the Bucks signed Lopez and will make around $1 million less than Lopez this coming season. He’s just 25 years old and has some legitimate potential waiting to be unearthed, so if the Bucks were looking for a better long-term piece, Bamba would have been the better pick; not to mention that he will make less than Lopez this coming season on top of that.

Still, even then, there’s no reason to despise this deal. The Bucks did not bring in Lopez to play an extremely important role for them, and he will not be eating a huge chunk of their payroll for next season. If it keeps Brook happy and helped him decide coming back to Milwaukee was his best bet, it’s just another reason to get behind the move. Welcome back to Milwaukee, Robin.
