Free agent point guard target for the Milwaukee Bucks – Nico Mannion

Back to the youth. It was an eye-catching move when the Bucks decided to bring Nico Mannion aboard for their Summer League showing. The guard has previous NBA experience, as he was a second round pick of the Golden State Warriors in 2020. After one season with Golden State, he went to play overseas, where he’s been ever since. With a hole at point guard, Mannion is worth taking a look at.

It’s been a tale of two games for Mannion thus far. In game one against the Nuggets, the guard had 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. In game two against the Suns, there were plenty of struggles for Mannion, who had six points on an abysmal 2-of-14 shooting. He did perform well as a passer, having tallied six assists. At 22 years old, the guard is still young, and his inconsistent play is not overly shocking.

Of Milwaukee’s two Summer League point guards, Gortman is the more compelling name. Yet, two games are left on the schedule, and anything can happen in that timeframe. If Mannion gets into a groove and performs extremely well, perhaps the Bucks could opt to keep him around. It wouldn’t be a costly move for Milwaukee, who could likely have him on a team-friendly deal. He’d add some youth to a roster that seems to be embracing it more than ever.
