No. 3 – Re-signing Brook Lopez
Coming off one of his best seasons, which included finishing second in the Defensive Player of the Year race, retaining Brook Lopez was a priority for the Bucks. The front office showcased that after handing the big man a two-year deal worth an astounding $48 million. Though that was certainly a hefty price to pay to keep Lopez, he was too important to let go in free agency.
The Bucks have been one of the best defensive teams in the league in recent memory, and Lopez’s presence has helped mightily in that regard. He’s been one of the best rim protectors in the league since coming to Milwaukee, proving to be an imposing force close to the hoop nightly. That doesn’t even involve his strong contributions on the offensive end, where he’s been a quality contributor.
At the end of the day, Bucks fans should be thrilled that Brook Lopez is sticking around. It would’ve been an insurmountable task to replace what he provides on both sides of the basketball with the team’s limited assets and spending money. If the big man can build off of his impressive season in 2022-23, it would make the Milwaukee Bucks that much more lethal this coming NBA season.
