No. 2 – Mike D’Antoni

Currently the coaching advisor for the New Orleans Pelicans, Mike D’Antoni has been through it all in the NBA.

You don’t have to be a fan of any of his teams to know who he is. Known for his innovative offensive schemes and player development prowess, D’Antoni had left an indelible mark on the modern game. To this point, D’Antoni has been one of the most innovative offensive coaches in NBA history before he stepped away from the coaching chair. D’Antoni has led several teams to top-ranked offenses, including the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets.

As you might already know, he is among those responsible for ushering in the up-tempo style of play and the emphasis on 3-point shooting that we see around the league today, which should match with the personnel of a team like the Bucks.

If the idea is to net a suitable offensive coordinator for players like Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, then the possible synergy between D’Antoni’s offensive philosophy and the Bucks’ existing lineup is enough reason alone to take a shot at reaching out.

It’s unclear if he’s willing to take on a more active role in the game on the coaches’ bench again, but a man of D’Antoni’s talents is wasted serving as an advisor for a team that has yet to show signs of possibly contending in the near future.
