Goal 1: Making the Milwaukee Bucks faster

For some time now, plenty of people have talked about how the Bucks needed to get younger and faster. They addressed that with Johnson, although it didn't happen in the most convincing way. He now has the chance to prove the critics wrong, though.

AJ Johnson didn't need much time to prove his quickness as one of his best weapons. In his first Summer League game, he ran the court fearless and was great finishing at the rim, and he's kept doing so every time he's been given the chance. So if the Milwaukee Bucks have a problem with their speed, he could try to solve it.

The Bucks do have a problem with their speed, somewhat. Despite having Giannis Antetokounmpo, arguably the greatest transition player ever, they were a terrible transition team last year, which feels awkward. That issue might have to do with the fact that Giannis didn't really have any good transition partners to get out and run with him on the break.

The Greek Freak just led the league in fast break points with 5.5 a game for the third time in his career and has been at least in the top three since the 2019-20 season. However, the Bucks ranked 24th in fastbreak points and 29th in percentage of fastbreak points, which shows one player isn't enough to be a good team in that aspect of the game.

If Johnson could have an impact and get some easy points on the run, he could actually change things quite a bit for the Milwaukee Bucks.

After all, the team does indeed need those points. The offense was a bit stiff last year after Doc Rivers took the coaching job, so even if we can hope for him to do a better job now that he's had a full offseason to work on it, he's clearly aiming to make this a more defense-oriented team. Johnson using his speed to get some buckets is something he could do to help this offense keep flowing.
