3 Most overpaid Milwaukee Bucks players for 2024-25 season
By Rudy LB
AJ Johnson
If you did not like this first-round pick of the Milwaukee Bucks before, then you really won't like it now.
He easily makes the list because he has $5 million guaranteed coming his way over the next two years. That is close to being more money than Gary Trent Jr, AJ Green, Taurean Prince and MarJon Beauchamp combined will make in terms of guaranteed money.
Huh! How does that work? Good question. Well, it is good to be a first round pick in the NBA.
Yes, AJ Johnson did post some decent production numbers in the NBA Summer League. However, the 19-year-old still looks like a walking project. Was that the right move for a team that is looking to advance past the first round of the 2024-2025 NBA playoffs? Probably not.
Then again, this is also a franchise that will need to start thinking about what life will be like after Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Why is Giannis not on this list?
It is rare to think of any sports team or athletes being considered “globally recognized.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo is worth every penny.
You could argue the Green Bay Packers have “global recognition.” In the state of Wisconsin, we have the publicly owned Green Bay Packers franchise with merchandise that shows up everywhere. With the NFL as the sports behemoth that it is, Wisconsin is proud of its Packers. Even this writer owns a share of stock and of the team.
Is Giannis as popular globally as the entire Packers franchise is?
Well, 105 miles to the south of Green Bay you have Milwaukee, Wisconsin, home to the state’s largest city. There we have the Brewers and Bucks, two professional sports franchises that compete and win and lose and entertain all the while.
Could the Brewers honestly say they have anyone who would be recognized outside of the U.S.? Maybe Christian Yelich?
The Milwaukee Bucks are the only local team to have a global superstar in Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Yes, in 2027, Giannis will earn close to $80 million in salary! But he is worth it.
Giannis embodies a lot of things we long to be, especially in terms of Wisconsin's values. Now, if he can just remain healthy, somehow, some way, at the end of the NBA season, the Milwaukee Bucks certainly look like a team that is destined to advance beyond the first round of the NBA playoffs.
