As the Milwaukee Bucks look to catch up with the times in the NBA, a potential NBA D-League affiliate for the franchise has long been near the top of the priority list for most fans of the team.

As the D-League (the NBA’s minor league affiliate) edges ever closer to a point when they can claim a true 30 team league that provides single affiliation for each franchise in the NBA proper, the Bucks have been forced to act.

Although the foundation of a secondary team creates significant expense, the benefits in terms of player development and promoting the reach of the NBA team’s brand should not be underestimated.

For the city who ultimately gets to house the team the revenues and interest that can be generated also act as a significant advantage in terms of employment and tourism. As such, it has been no surprise to see a variety of cities volunteer their services in recent months.

According to a recent report from Gery Woelfel, the Bucks have now narrowed the possible contenders down to a shortlist of five Wisconsin cities, and will be making their final decision in the not so distant future.

"Bucks president Peter Feigin said five cities from Wisconsin have submitted bids to become the home of the team’s new D-League team. They are Racine, Sheboygan, Green Bay, Oshkosh and La Crosse. The Sheboygan contingent is being spearheaded by Kohler native and former NBA player Joe Wolf. Feigin said the Bucks expect to select a city “in the next six to eight weeks.’’ The Bucks plan to have a team in place for the 2017-2018 season."

So, with five cities vying it out for the big prize, let’s take a closer look about what we know so far about their respective bids.

(UPDATE: As of 6/29/16, Green Bay has submitted no formal bid as of yet according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, and disputes any previous report to the contrary. Grand Chute instead said to be the fifth location in contention.)
