The Milwaukee Bucks offense is multi-faceted, with some types of offense working much better for the Bucks than others.

Like every NBA team, the Milwaukee Bucks rely on lots of different kinds of offense to score points. On a basic level, any basketball team’s offense can be broken into shots at the rim and jump shots, as well as free throws.

These days, it’s possible to get a much more sophisticated idea of how teams score though. Thanks to advanced player tracking data that NBA.com makes available to anybody online, offense can be broken down through a variety of play types.

Some of the metrics simply describe the obvious. Some of them are too niche to be all that important. Four of the most interesting ones available are isolation, pick and roll both for ball handlers and roll men, post ups and cuts to the basket.

To see how Milwaukee does in each of those as a team and how some individual Bucks do in those play types, we’ll go through them one by one. The Bucks could work on improving their shot selection as a team by playing to their strengths and finding more efficient looks on offense.

One of the best play types for Milwaukee is transition looks, where the Bucks are fourth among all teams in points per possession. That type isn’t broken down here because it’s not a half-court set, and obviously the Bucks would love to run more in transition if they could.
