Milwaukee Bucks: Giannis Antetokounmpo named to All-Defensive Second Team
By Adam McGee
Milwaukee Bucks All-Star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been selected to the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team for the 2016-17 season.
Fresh off the back of Malcolm Brogdon‘s unanimous selection to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team for 2016-17, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has garnered further recognition for his outstanding season.
Antetokounmpo was already named to the league’s All-NBA Second Team shortly after the conclusion of the regular season, while he can now add defensive honors to that too.
The Greek Freak joined Tony Allen, Danny Green, Andre Roberson and Anthony Davis‘ on the All-Defensive Second Team for the season, with Chris Paul, Patrick Beverley, Draymond Green, Kawhi Leonard and Rudy Gobert making the First Team.

Antetokounmpo picked up a total of seven first team votes (worth two points) and 21 second team votes (worth one point) for a total score of 35.
That 35 point tally was the same as Atlanta Hawks’ forward Paul Millsap, yet without any first team votes Millsap lost to the young Buck in a tiebreaker.
The full list of votes — including some of the more bizarre selections — can be found in the tweet below from ESPN’s Chris Haynes:
Giannis Antetokounmpo marks only the 19th time in Milwaukee Bucks’ history that a Buck has been voted to an All-Defensive team of any kind, and the first since Alvin Robertson made the First Team way back in the 1990-91 season.
Antetokounmpo joins Robertson, Paul Pressey, Sidney Moncrief, Quinn Buckner and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as one of just six Bucks to receive All-NBA Defensive Team recognition in the franchise’s near 50 year history
Those other five players all went on to repeat the feat at least one more time during their tenures with the Bucks.
For Giannis, this accolade continues to highlight a truly outstanding individual season that will be remembered for years to come and immortalized in the history books.
Now with All-NBA Second Team and All-Defensive Second Team honors in tow, Antetokounmpo will look to add the league’s Most Improved Player award to his collection at Monday night’s NBA Awards ceremony.

Antetokounmpo is up against the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic and Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz for that award, but is widely considered to be the favorite thanks to his impact on both ends of the floor.
