Despite playing uninspired for 47 minutes, the Bucks managed to escape the Los Angeles Lakers with a 113-105 overtime victory. All signs pointed to a demoralizing loss, but a clutch O.J. Mayo three pointer with time running out sent the game to overtime, tying the score at 94 and capping a final minute that saw the Bucks shoot 3-3 from three.
Brandon Knight came alive in the overtime period, scoring twelve of the Buck’s nineteen points, including a nonsensical 28-footer to give the Bucks a 107-103 lead with just :57 seconds remaining.
For as good as the Bucks were in the game’s final minute and overtime they looked lethargic the rest of the game. They were thrashed on the glass 53-35, allowing eighteen offensive rebounds to the Lakers and twenty rebounds to Ed Davis alone. The Bucks missed Kenyon Martin’s experience and toughness, having no answer for Carlos Boozer who scored a game-high 28 points.
“I don’t think this will be his career high for very long.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a career high 25 points, including ten in the third quarter, hitting a pair of jumpers and flashing some eye-popping post moves.
When asked about Giannis’ performance Jason Kidd said “I don’t think this will be his career high for very long.” So true, so true.
Unlike the wins against Portland and Toronto the Bucks were fortunate, not good, to come up with a win against the Lakers. But through clutch shooting and a career performance from their young Grecian star–the Bucks found a way to get it done, securing the team’s first five game winning streak since March 16, 2012.
Here’s your Bucks grades and reactions from their unlikely 113-105 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.
